Kyoto - In Picture (Part 2) [ 2009年 11月 26日 ]
[ mood | anxious ]
[ music | Buck Tick - Memento Mori ]

Today has just been one of those days...I want it to be OVER! GONE! ABSOLUTELY ENDED! FINISHED! Even now, I'm trying to relax and it just won't happen. My heart is still doing that odd, queasy flutter and it hurts :(

Anyway, here's my next batch of Kyoto photos. Maiko san will be coming next In Picture post, but I cannot guarantee that it will be the next photography post. I've some awesome Sydney photos I must share with you :3

Ginkaku-ji, The Silver Pavilion <3 Honestly, the gardens surrounding it are amazingly beautiful.

Hope you like them )

Three hours left until the day is gone...I cannot wait.

Stone Fountain [ 2009年 11月 22日 ]
[ mood | hot ]
[ music | Girugamesh - dirty blue blood ]

This was a drawing I finished while at work, months and months ago. I was at Onahama elementary and it was a Friday. I had no references, but I was making it rather fantastical anyway so it didn't matter.

It's surprising that I had enough free time to get it done, since Onahama gave me the most lessons per day. I remember the 6th graders that were designated Office Cleaners standing behind me and watching over my shoulder as I worked. Up until Kyoto sensei shooed them away anyway XD

Materials: 2B pencil...I cannot remember if I used anything harder than 2B for the horse.

If I did it again, I would change a few things, yes. No chance of that happening though, so let's just accept it the way it is :3

I didn't end up going to the CBD today after all...Only a crazy person would go out in 41 degree Celsius weather. We're expected a drop of TWENTY degrees between today and tomorrow. Now this is messed up weather o_o
Luckily for us, we've plenty of beaches to choose from! Now, who should I drag into the water with me...

[ music | Lands - Bandage ]

LEEEANNNEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! Facebook is down and I don't know how to get to you, but you have to see this!!

Actually, EVERYONE has to see this!

Jin's performance of Bandage, with Lands. This song is gorgeous, and so are the lyrics (from what I can make out) and I cannot wait for the movie!!

T___T He's doing it and I'm so happy for him...Also, I cannot wait until the song is out because it's going on repeat and not getting off!

Also, I totally agree, he truly is like the sun <3

And now, for PIN~!!!!!! The perfect thing to watch if you're stressed about exams ^^

Thanks to everyone involved with getting the videos to us. It was an awesome thing to see first thing on a Saturday morning ^^

WATCH 'EM YO!

This weekend is a busy one for me: Car shopping (yes, still) this morning, then running of to a shopping mall for some things. I'm probably going to join Fushigi chan for her birthday celebrations tonight. Then tomorrow, I'm off to the CBD for a whole lot of shopping, before meeting up with Koichi who's in Sydney for the weekend. Honestly...he couldn't get more than a day off. Japanese workers' rights? Hah! No such thing -_-

Kyoto - In Picture (Part 1) [ 2009年 11月 20日 ]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | Kame - 1582 ]

The last time I made an In Picture post was in SEPTEMBER! Forgive me, I've been feeling a lack of motivation when it comes to my Japan photos. I just have too damn many -_-

I was originally planning on writing whole essays on each of the temples/shrines I visited during my Kyoto stop, but meh, can't be bothered. I'll be nice and tell you where the photos were taken though :3

The hill leading to Kiyomizu-dera! I spent so much money in this area...

And that's all for now. There are quiet a few Kyoto posts coming up soon, including all the photos I took of Maiko san. I spent a good few hours waiting for them, so I'm extremely glad I was rewarded with some good shots.

All feedback = <3

Still to come after kyoto: Himeji castle, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Tokyo, and even Fuji san if Doug would just stop being lazy AND SEND ME THE PHOTOS!

I cannot believe I'm still listening to this song on repeat o_o

For The Record [ 2009年 11月 16日 ]

The still photographs displayed on my blog are visual artistic works created by myself, and have been placed online as demonstrations of my photographic activities. I am not a professional photographer, nor do I make any money from my photographs. The only personal gain I derive is review and criticism from my peers.

With regards to the photographs taken at Waverley Cemetery:

As a Waverley City Council controlled space it is subject to local government laws and regulations, including those regarding filming, specifically the Local Government Act (NSW) 1993 which sets out the procedure for people wishing to carry out filming to obtain council approvals. I note that section 119CA of the Local Government Act (NSW) 1993 is a presumption of approval for filming unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I would like to point out the filming is a very different medium to still photography. This distinction is recognised not only in the Copyright Act but also in the Local Government Act (NSW) 1993 to which the Waverley City Council is subject.

Under the Copyright Act 1968 ('the Act'), copyright subsists in a work made by the author, with a 'work' expressly defined as being an artistic, musical, dramatic, or literary work, or if subject-matter other than works, a sound recording, cinematograph film, television or sound broadcast. The Waverley Cemetery is none of these things. As such, there is no copyright in the Waverley Cemetery to be infringed.

The only copyright that could possibly be at issue is that in the sculptures and headstones. This copyright would be owned by the sculptor unless assigned in writing. Unless the Waverley Cemetery has been expressly assigned the copyright in each of the headstones and sculptures featured in my photographs, it has no basis on which to claim infringement of copyright, or to claim that copyright permissions were required in the first place.

If any of the Waverley Cemetery sculptures featured in my photographs are under copyright, and that copyright has been assigned to the Waverley Cemetery, they will be subject to section 65 of the Act. Section 65 expressly provides as follows:

65 Sculptures and certain other works in public places

(2) The copyright in a work to which this section applies that is situated, otherwise than temporarily, in a public place, or in premises open to the public, is not infringed by the making of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of the work or by the inclusion of the work in a cinematograph film or in a television broadcast.

Finally, with regards to the photographs themselves, they are considered artistic works under the Act and copyrighted to me as the artist. I have every right as a copyright owner to reproduce, publish and communicate my photographs as I decide. For record, you do not have permission to reproduce or publish my photographs, or to communicate them to the public without my authority.

Waverley Cemetery + Model photography 2 [ 2009年 11月 13日 ]
[ mood | determined ]
[ music | Kame - 1582 ]

It's Friday the 13th, so a post of this nature is only fitting! Now, I tend to think of Friday the 13th as a very lucky day for me, seeing as how I was actually born at 6am on the 6th of June! Today proved me correct :3

Firstly, I met my new piano teacher! She came from Poland a mere month ago, and she's gorgeous and incredibly talented. She plays the flute and the piano, and has been in a special music schools from elementary through to university. She's going to give me lessons in my own home, and she only wants $35 an hour from me, when the average price is $60 :3
I begin next week!!

Second bit of awesome news is that today I did field work with my workmate, Aaron. I'm expecting to learn a huge amount from this job, including the all important air/water/soil testing and all kind of report writing.

Finally, I was just told that the boss of this HUGE environmental company was looking at my resume and wanted me to work on field for him. Alas, I already have work, but it's good to know that there are other positions open for me ^^V

Now, onto the photos!

I love the way the angels are looking down at [info]_leareth ...The one on the left is especially creepy!

Some beautiful crosses right this way )

I think we decided to go back to the same place for a sunrise shoot, but with kimono instead of a dress~ I cannot wait for future shoots!

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

Still waiting for replies from UNSW and  University of Macquarie, but I just got my first offer letter from UNE - Masters of Geographic Information Science off campus. This means I'll be studying next year FOR SURE, no matter who replies to me.

Oh it feels GOOD to have solid information!! I just need UNSW to move their asses and reply with a yay or nay.

Found a gorgeous car last Sunday, but it was a little pricey. This week we'll make a final shop around. If we don't stumble onto anything, we'll go back to Gorgeous Car :3

Bought me loads of V energy drinks, since I'm nodding off at the oddest times of the day. I guess that's how it goes when you have two jobs...not to mention, I've been super lazy for the 2.5 months prior, so I guess it's expected. Anyway, work in 45 minutes. I hope everyone on my f-list is having a good day.

I'M STUDYING NEXT YEAR!! HAPPPYYYY :DDDDDDD

Playing Catch Up [ 2009年 11月 9日 ]
[ mood | chipper ]
[ music | Jin solo - Care ]

First day of work went perfectly well!! Isn't it awesome when you can get along with your co-workers? Isn't it even more awesome when it's one of your university friends who's working with you? I think the highlight (really close after playing with microscopes and slides and chemicals) was Fushigi chan and I chatting in Japanese. I think 30 min a day will be great for us, ne Fushigi chan? XD

今日ありがとうございました!これからよろしくお願いします!一緒にいっぱいの甘い物食べましょう:D

I finally know my job title!! As of today, I'm an Environmental Consultant for ESP. What was really funny was me emailing Hiro san with the news. His reply was: "ESPはギターの会社じゃないか"

No, not the guitar company XDDDD

I only managed two days out of my volunteer work week, which was kinda sad since I REALLY like Michael, the CVA ranger. He's British (so I absolutely loved the way he talked), an avid bird watcher, AND he listens to classical music! Consider me in love :3
The group on Wednesday was especially large, with all sorts of people helping out. Apart from our two rangers, Michael and Jin (YES HIS NAME IS JIN. NO I'M NOT SPAZZING ABOUT A NAME, I'M NOT THAT CHILDISH IlovemesomeJin!!) I was the only other scientist. It was amusing at times, since when the rangers took off, the group looked to me for instructions o_o

Actually, two guys were uni students doing some English study in Sydney. One was Korean, and the other Japanese (yay for practice!) and they were really awesome. The Korean is studying Chemistry, but the Japanese (TAKESHI!) is a Lawyer. Actually, I think he studied the exact same thing as you [info]_leareth !

I did get a little miffed at one lady though...We were combating erosion in a Blacktown area, so we were using wooden stakes to hold back as many grasses and saplings as possible. I suggested that we spread a whole lot of Kangaroo grass seeds around the area in the hopes of at least one or two germinating and Jin agreed, which was great. One lady though...she spent her whole time on that hill clipping alien grasses. YES we don't like aliens, but in that situation, you really don't want to lose the support of their roots when erosion is such a huge problem. I explained to her as much, but she didn't get it >.>

I've been craving TB, and knowing that a certain person is working on a fic RIGHT NOW just made me want to post this ancient drawing of mine!

Finally, I'm REALLY looking forwards to Jin's movie, Bandage.

There's certainly nothing hotter than Jin with a guitar on his lap <3

Btw, a certain photo shoot of his caused more of a stir than I first thought XD I wonder if Yamapi got the same kind of treatment.

JINJIN BWAHAHAHHAHA I'M SO AMUSED! It's almost as funny as that big, red 赤四 screaming out from one of the papers XD

Enough time wasting on JinJin...I still have Japanese to study. Tomorrow I have a one day course to get my White Card. I just want it to be OVER, since I'm meeting June after for ice-cream!

Tomorrow is going to be a full on day. I'm going car shopping with mom and dad in the morning, then meeting up with June at the CBD for lunch and some shopping. At 5 I'm meeting [info]_leareth  and possibly [info]fahye for dinner and ice-cream :3

Currently working on B-T's 'Doll' drawing while listening to the AWESOME that is Jon Stewart/Brian Williams banter:

Jon: "You have three nipples!"

Brian: "...You didn't seem to mind last night"

[ music | D'espairsRay - Garnet ]

It has been months since my last B-T A submission!

It's finally here...Buck-Tick's AMAZING song 'Dress', through my eyes. This will always be one of my favorites, and it's very close behind Rasen Mushi (which I ADORE and which I'm still struggling to draw).

As always, a great many thanks to [info]sparklingai for her translations. I cannot read any but hers <3

Why don't I have wings to drift through the sky like the wind, like the clouds, why?
I don't have wings so I sink into the night as the stars and the moon engulf me entirely aa~

Why don't I have wings to drift through the sky like the wind, like the clouds, why?
Now I begin to love the pain as both this love, and this wound are dear aa~

No references used, so I'm pretty proud of my dress :3
Ok, the black? It was all CROSS-HATCHED using 0.3 black gel-pen. It took me months of work, and I honestly cannot put into words what I had to go through to get it all done.

There's something off in this drawing, and yes, I know what it is XD Alas, there's nothing I can do about it. This is one of the few drawings that I'm sure I'll re-do (on a large piece of paper or a canvas) after I take my art class.

Comments will always be love, especially regarding my precious B-T A! As always, I'm sorry if you see this more than once on your f-list.

Trying to Cram [ 2009年 11月 3日 ]
[ mood | nervous ]

So...Job interview in about eight hours.

For a job that is not only related to my field, but that will get my foot through that gold-tinted, jewel-encrusted, great arch of a door that is Ecology and Science Management. Best thing about it is, even if I begin in the hazardous materials section of the company, THEY HAVE AN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SECTION! All I would need is to take two steps to the left or something o_o

My dad, who's an engineer, flailed at me all morning trying to convince me to take not only my resume, but also my photography book and a work of art. He says that such things are incredibly important in such a field but I'm iffy...what do you guys think?

Fushigi chan called me about the interview yesterday, while I was arm deep in mud and working alongside two other volunteers and one ranger, planting native trees and grasses in Blacktown area. It's a week long project, but I had to cancel today's session...I'm currently trying to cram as much information about hazardous materials and env management into my head as possible. Since I had a two hour tutoring session last night right after manual labor, I was far too exhausted to even think of today. Geh, I have another tutoring session tonight too!!

With regards to my uni application: I spent the weekend freaking out about the possibility of the application not going through since I've yet to send in the hard copies of relevant documents. They finally e-mailed me to tell me to STOP FREAKING WORRYING, and dad has the paperwork in his hands now. He's going to our doctor to get them signed, then he'll mail them out for me.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
<-- Might be a Bush-esque banner of early retardedness XD
As soon as I have a student ID, I will throw a freaking celebratory party. You're all invited, let's go out for ice-cream.

Oh God, a job interview...I've only ever had two before. My hands are shaking o_o

Wish me luck! If you have any advice to share, LAY IT ON ME PEOPLE!

Decision Time Wasn't Supposed to be NOW!! [ 2009年 10月 29日 ]
[ mood | determined ]
[ music | Buck Tick - Glamorous ]

Thanks to an innocent, off-handed question on my part, my mind just became a whole lot more cluttered. Mel, in one of her rare once-in-a-blue-moon appearances on MSN, is trying very hard to convince me to take a chance, and apply for a Master Degree NOW!
After doing some research, I'm left with some possibilities, though I've yet to contact The University of New South Wales (my first choice) about their criteria regarding postgrad students.

I'm left with a very 'egg-or-chicken' argument. In order to get the job I want, I need to have certain skills under my belt. The problem is, we don't get taught all of these skills in undergrad studies. We do however, get to concentrate on what it is we need for work during postgrad studies. BUT, I can't go to uni without having some sort of income. I need a job to back me up, even if it isn't science (it really pains me to say that XD).

So, do I go ahead and start a Master Degree NOW, and worry about work after? Or do I concentrate on finding work (even if I might not find anything this year) and start study afterwords.

HEADACHES YAY!!

Then there are my choices of universities...Go with an off campus/at home course or try on campus? Lord knows I don't think I can concentrate on studying if I'm not in a class environment, but some of these universities are quiet far away from home/possible work (and parking fees are painful).

If nothing else, I can say this:  Postgrad courses are friggin AWESOME!! It's like a buffet of super specialized, super interesting courses and I cannot wait to pick 'em all :3

Abusing Photoshop = Bucketloads of Fun [ 2009年 10月 28日 ]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | Kame - 1582 ]

First, I'm sorry to be dumping another photography post on your heads so soon after the previous one. However, I'm incredibly (perhaps childishly) excited about my new discovery.

As I'm sure you've all noticed that I rarely, if ever, deviate too far from natural colors and acceptable levels of contrast/exposure when it comes to my photography. I'm a naturalist that way, and I actively work on keeping my work within self-imposed guidelines so that they don't stray from the 'real' and into the fantastical.
This is probably why it confused me to wake up this morning fully intent on breaking all my little rules and going ape-shit crazy with Photoshop. It won't happens often, and it certainly won't happen with most of my work, but I want to be able to say that yes, I could indeed produce works that compete with the coolest (photoshopped-to-DEATH) photography out there. Looking at what I've produced, I'm starting to see why it's so marketable :3

And so, without further ado, I bring you the results of a whole day's worth of experimentation :D Behold, my Frankenstein!!

So SO?? I'm loving the 'anything goes'!! )

Hope you like ^^

In other news, I have a bit of a casual job. Thanks to mom's friends and their billions of children, I'm now tutor to four. I'll be teaching six hours a week, which isn't bad. Now even if I don't find a science job right away (apparently grad applications won't probably open till next year), I'll be content with another part time job.

Also, I will be doing some volunteer work with Conservation Australia. The whole of next week will be spent working for the Blacktown Council, then after that I might give my old friends at  the Royal National Park a call :3 I'm busying myself up!

Ok, I'm REALLY happy with this set, and I can't possibly think of anything else I would have wanted for my photos. I had perfect weather, perfect location, and [info]_leareth made the perfect model!

I guess we can't call it cosplay, since she wasn't actually cosplaying anything. The clothes did kick ass though! Best part was other people thinking we were professionals and stopping to look and/or take photos!!

Yes, I'm indeed in love with this set <3 )

There will be a couple more posts with photos from this trip. It was really hard trying to cut the 300 photos I took to a mere 40, and there's no way I can cut out any more!

Feedback, as always, is appreciated. Since this was my first time working with a model, I'm curious to hear what you have to say :3

小鳥 [ 2009年 10月 22日 ]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | Deadman - In Media ]

You guys remember this drawing? It was a bit of an experiment, and apparently, it worked. I was trying to keep the subject blank, but still allow it to capture the observer's eye despite vivid backgrounds. I had actually finished this before posting the previous piece (which makes this rather old), but I like it. I think I should try another creature (I've done yet ANOTHER bird one...) but bulky animals are not working *shrugs*

The colored pencils are Japanese Irojiten, but the black is Derwent, WHICH I ABHOR DON'T EVER BUY THIS BRAND unless it's inktense pencils or graphi-tint pencils IT DOESN'T FREAKING BLEND!

Ah well...I'm going to try and make myself feel better by saying that the black area has more texture so it works >.> Please support this idea XD

Done! FIXED IT. I went over the whole thing in my Faber pencil...I'll scan it tomorrow ^^ Scanned :3 I hope it looks better now. Since the scanner is different from the one I used before, the colors are a little different.

Let me know what you think :3

I spent all of today helping Sonia go over her thesis, which is finally done!!  It's about the effects of deacetylation of Surgilux and chitosan on physiochemical properties on micro topography of biopolymers and their crystallinity, and biocompatibility with C2C12 cells etc etc so on and so forth and my brain hurts. But, it's all done now! After a whole friggin year, I can have my Sonia back~!

Really looking forwards to the weekend :3
